FAQ
A: FAQ is an acronym for "frequently asked questions."
A: English bulldogs are a man made breed that is VERY hard to breed and raise. EB's have to artificially inseminated. Alot of people do not keep a male around they actually have to pay for stud services from another breeder. This includes chilled semen that has to be overnighted, special type of container to ship the semen in and a skilled vet or breeder to insiminate your female. Progesterone testing is required to be sure of the proper day to AI your girl. Usually numerous progesterone tests have to be paid for to catch her at the presice time! All EB females should be c-sectioned as to be sure of the saftey of your female along with the saftey of the babies. English bullys heads are much too large for the birth canal, so puppies can get stuck and kill mom and babies. Then its time to bring babies home and feed them! EB's are terrible moms and have to have around the clock care to feed thier own babies. They will actually sit on the babies and crush them or suffocate them. So you must NEVER leave a bully mom alone with her babies! We set our clock for every 2 hours for the first week and then slowly graduate up to 3 hours on the second week. Its just like having a new born human baby, except you have several of them! Loads of laundry ! Bully mothers milk does not come in like most other breeds of dogs, it takes time for a c sectioned moms milk to come in. We let the babies suckle the moms colostrum and what milk they can get and then top them off with a milk replacer formula. While feeding they can asperate very quickly and get pnuemonia. The mouth is very wide on the bully babies so you have to keep a suction bulb at your finger tips for suctioning out the milk in the nose so it will not go back into the lungs or you will loose your puppies very fast!
A: Many people think they can breed these dogs and make tons of money, but I am here to tell you that you will never make tons of money from raising an english bulldog. You may make an occasional dollar or 2 only to put it back into them at some point! Its a true labor of love! English bullys are very adolescent acting dogs and have a very comical nature about them. With a face like that..who couldn't love looking at it all the time!! If you have ever owned an english bully, you know why people continue the breed.
A: EB's can have literally tons of problems! Eye issues (Entropion, turned inward eye lashes),Allergies(food, pollen, etc..) Under bite (bottom jaw sticking too far out) Tight tails (usually the dogs that look to have no tails, have more problems than the eb's with a euro tail, its just a bit longer) This makes for an amputation later in life because of internal infections. Loose hips, not correctly in place in the sockets.
Pallet problems (Nasal or mouth issues) ,
A: NO, NO, NO! Not any vet can have the knowledge to care for an english bulldog. I have heard a vet in my area tell me that there are NO such things as a vet being a bulldog specialist. Well she is DEAD wrong! Most vets have a general knowledge of care for any dog, but there is a different scale to go by when taking care of bullys. This subject I could go on and on about....
A: Although colored bullys are more frequently seen now, they are still rare. The ratios are not very high when you see a bulldog of color as oppsed to seeing a regular colored bully. These sorts of breedings take a bit more money and education to breed. Gene testing on your dog to see what genes they carry and then you will know what to breed back too. Then you have to purchase your rare colored bulldog ,( which is a huge expense in its self) for the mother, and then usually stud out to a much more expensive male since he will carry the color you need. Genetics is a funny thing! All the gene testing companies are still learning about this themselves. Some will do free testing on a dog for you so they can experiment with the gene crosses.
